2027: Group Reiterates Call for Tinubu’s Re-election

A pan-Nigerian group, the Movement for Equity in Nigeria (MEN) has reiterated its call for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the nation heads to the polls in 2027.

Addressing journalists in Enugu, the group’s national coordinator Alhaji Gidado Siddiki said the call was in the best interest of the nation as it would further strengthen the existing power-sharing formula between the North and South.

“Power has been equitably rotated between the two regions since the nation’s return to democracy in 1999, and it behooves every well-meaning Nigerian to respect this formula for equity, peace, and justice to continue to thrive among us.

“We’ve observed with utter dismay the concerted efforts being made by certain elements to unduly return power to a part of the country that ruled for eight years before the coming of this administration, and enjoin such elements to desist forthwith and eschew acts that are capable of distabilising our democracy,” he said.

On the lingering insecurity claiming lives and crippling economic activities across the country, Siddiki maintained that the development began long before the coming of the Tinubu administration and using it to underrate its achievements in the past three years was both unfair and laughable.

“It’s very wrong to say this that administration has not achieved anything since it came into power over three years ago. What we’re witnessing today is sheer mischief, a situation where dangerous propaganda is used to pollute the political space and make people believe that the federal government under Tinubu is doing nothing to improve the situation of things across the country,” Siddiki said.

He insisted that since the last administration also had its flaws and ruled for eight years, it would be unjust to deny President Tinubu a second term, as such could negate the essence of power rotation and plunge the country into political instability.
