Yobe Govt Approves Implementation Of Weight-In Allowance For Journalists, Others

Yobe State Government has approved the implementation of minimum weight-in allowance for journalists in its employment, including non-journalists in the state.

This was contained in a letter emanating from the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Zainab Muhammad Ago, which was signed for the Head of Service and made available to newsmen in Damaturu the state capital.

The approval followed a joint request by two Unions – NUJ and RATTAWU, pursuant to their weigh-in allowance that applies to all workers working in Radio and Television as well as the council for Arts and Culture sector.

The approval states that 35% of basic salary for journalists and 20% of basic salary for non-journalists be implemented.

According to the letter, the two (2) unions were enjoying the weigh-in allowance prior to implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.

In view of the foregoing, the Ministry of Finance is hereby directed to implement the said allowance accordingly, the letter said.
