Some Altered Results Of AMAC Election Were Even Uploaded To INEC Portal — Dino Melaye Reacts

Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has alleged irregularities in the chairmanship election of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), claiming that altered results were uploaded to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement disseminated through his verified X account on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Melaye articulated: “Certain modified results from the AMAC election were, in fact, uploaded to the INEC portal. This action elucidates the rationale behind the NASS’s acceptance of the manual coalition. It is important to note that only the figures associated with the APC were subject to alteration. This is a clear deviation from democratic principles.”

The post was accompanied by an image of an INEC Form EC8A, the official polling unit result sheet from a polling unit in Gwarinpa, AMAC. The form showed votes recorded for political parties, including 86 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 20 votes for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), among others.

Melaye alleged that the figure attributed to the APC had been altered from lower original numbers before being uploaded. The allegations surfaced hours after INEC declared the APC candidate, Christopher Maikalangu, winner of the AMAC chairmanship election following manual collation of results.

The use of manual collation has been a subject of public debate, particularly in the context of discussions surrounding electronic transmission of results. The National Assembly had earlier endorsed manual collation procedures in the newly signed 2026 Electoral Act in the instances where electronic transmission encounters challenges, the decision which has generated reactions from opposition figures, CSOs, Others, as reported by The Punch.

INEC has yet to issue an official response to the specific allegations raised in the post at the time of filing this report.
