Return of Gov Fubara, Group Call For Probe Of Ibas’ 6-Month Rule

The Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has urged Governor of Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to set up a committee to investigate the management of the State’s funds during the six months of State of Emergency Rule under Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) imposed on the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.

CHRAN, a pro-democracy cum human rights organisation in Nigeria, made its position known through its Director, Otuekong Franklyn Isong weekend, while fielding questions on the issue on Passion 94.5 FM Radio in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The group, quoted Section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), posited that the President acted unlawfully and unconstitutionally as the section did not empower the President to suspend an elected State Governor, Deputy Governor and elected members of the State House of Assembly.

The CHRAN argued that Siminalayi Fubara was elected for a tenure of four years and should approach the court to seek six months extension to his tenure of office.
