Police Breaks Silence On ₦100m Transferred To Ex-IGP Egbetokun’s Son Account

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that the ₦100 million transferred to the personal account of Victor Egbetokun, son of the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was made in error.

The police response followed an online report alleging that Victor received ₦100 million from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the transaction was promptly reversed after it was detected.

Hundeyin said, “You could remember when he (Omoyele Sowore) said ₦100 million was paid into the account of the son of the IGP. I called the son of the IGP immediately to know what was going on, and he explained.

“He said he saw 100 million in his account, and he told his accounts officer to reverse the money immediately, which he did.”

The Force PRO added that Victor provided evidence of the reversal.

“He printed out his statement of account. He showed me. The young man was forced to close down that account. He has written a petition to the EFCC for that allegation to be investigated,” he said.

The police spokesperson described the transfer as a mistaken transaction, stating that the funds were returned to the Anambra State Government’s account shortly after the mistake was discovered.

NewsRegion reported that the Presidency has confirmed Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation as Inspector-General of Police.

According to the Presidency, the police chief resigned his position due to family issues that require his attention.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement to the PUNCH, said, “The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which require his undivided attention.”
