One Week After Assurances, Kebbi Metropolis Still Hit By Water Shortage

Barely one week after Kebbi State Government’s assurance for constant water supply in the metropolitan areas, residents in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi have cried out for acute water shortage.

Our Reporter gathered that the residents included those of Badariya, Rafin Atiku, Nassarawa, Illelar Yari, Makerar Gandu and some parts of old town.

It is recalled that when government noticed the effects of shortage of water supply in some parts of Birnin Kebbi metropolis, officials led by the Secretary to the State Government visited Dukku Water site in Badariya area where they confirmed that the problem was as a result of broken pipes. A committee was immediately set up to ensure repairs of all the broken pipes.

Our reporter, however, gathered that soon after the committee finished its work, government again, announced full restoration of water supply, from Tuesday last week but till this moment, not even a drop of water seen.

Some residents in Badariya area who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonimity, said that they waited to fetch water on the day government assured but there is none.

Another resident in Illelar Yari who also preferred anonimity, lamented the terrible situation he found himself as result of lack of portable water for his domestic use.

They called on the state government to immediately revisit the work of executed on the broken pipes by the committee.

When contacted, the state Ministry for Water Resources, a director who craved anonimity confirmed that the work on broken pipes ha

been done but, wondering why the water didn’t reach out to the consumers.

“May be the problem now could be associated with lack of power supply by KEDCO,” the director added.
