Kebbi NUJ Correspondents Chapel Holds Lecture

The Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi State, in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali, has organised a One-Day Public Lecture On Media, Good Governance And Democracy, aimed at articulating the successes of the present administration in the state.

In his welcome address, Chairman of the Chapel, Alhaji Kabir Wurma implored the participants to keenly listen to the lecture, presented by the guest speaker which is a vital takeaway.

He noted that Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu has written his name in gold as far as history of Kebbi is concerned.

According to him, the Chapel is planning to launch a magazine, containing major achievements of the Kaura-led administration within two years in office, sponsored by the Chairman of the state Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA), Alhaji Faruku Musa Enabo.

The Chapel chairman however, commended the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, who sponsored the programme, called on other SAs to emulate him.

Declaring the event opened, Chief of Staff to Kebbi State Governor, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, described the event as timely, as 2027 elections is approaching.

Maccido who described the media as a vital tool for information dissemination also commended the Chapel’s members in promoting, awareness and publicised programmes of the present administration before the eyes of the world.

He advised the Chapel to continue initiating programmes that will further cement the good working relationship between government and the journalists.

Also speaking, Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi who represented the Governor, encouraged journalists to always initiate something different that would promote their profession.

He said “days have gone when journalists will wait to be offered token for survival while ideas abound to be utilised.”

He advised journalists to always use their brains on how to survive instead of depending on someone’s salvation.

In his vote of thanks, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, urged journalists to always verify facts before publication.

“It’s better to delay than hurriedly send a story that at the end would land you in court in the urge for beating your colleagues to it,” Sarki counseled.
