Kebbi NRCS Holds Stakeholders Meeting On EWS

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) office in Kebbi State, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross ( IFRC), funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) has held stakeholders meeting on All Elements of Early Warning System (EWS) on disaster management in ember months and January.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting held at the Malaria Control Unit in Birnin Kebbi, NRCS State Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Ngaski further disclosed that the Stakeholders Meeting on EWS was organised by NRCS Kebbi State office, after approval was given by IFRC and ECHO, of projects to three states; Kogi, Bayelsa and Kebbi on early warning action on disaster management.

“In Kebbi State, six LGAs and 12 communities were selected for the project and they include Yauri, Shanga, Bagudo, Koko/Besse, Ngaski and Suru “while communities are Kamfani in Argungu, Zaria-Kalakala and Samnaji in Koko/Besse, Gungu-Sarki in Yauri, Birnin Yauri in Ngaski, Bagudo/Tuga and Ka’oje/Garuba in Bagudo,” Ngaski said.

“However, the Stakeholders comprise of Federal Fire Service, NSCDC, DSS, LG- Emergency Committee, NIWA, SEMA, SRRBRDA, NRCS officials and traditional rulers.”

Ngaski noted that at the end of the meeting, stakeholders will convey the NRCS’s messages against fire disaster, flooding, pollution and night journey by canoe drivers without wearing jacket kits.

He emphasized that during harmattan and rainy seasons there were record of disasters which NRCS wanted to send signal warnings very early to the communities in order to avert such disasters.

He called on people to cooperate with the Red Cross Society in order to achieve such projects in Kebbi State.
