Gov Eno Cautions Corps Members Against Night Journey

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has advised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to be security conscious and avoid night traveling during their service period.

Eno sounded the piece of advice during the closing ceremony of 2025 Batch C Corps Members at the permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The Governor, represented by Mr. Emmanuel Akpabio, Director of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Development, urged corps members not to travel at night, no matter the reason.

“Permit me to strongly caution you against travelling at night for any reason. Should your journey extend beyond 6:00pm, kindly seek temporary shelter in a corps lodge, police station or military barracks.

“Most of the unfortunate losses we have in the scheme have resulted from night travel. Please, be wise and prioritise your safety,” Eno insisted.

Eno urged corps members to board vehicles at designated motor parks with well documented manifests, urging them to share their locations with friends and families.

“Remember, the numbers of the security agencies are in the security tips you were issued. Please use them in case of emergencies,” he said.

He urged the corps members to play a pivotal role in their places of primary assignment as expected of their academic status and respect the culture and tradition of their host communities.

“As ambassadors of unity and development, you are expected to play a significant role in enlightening our people on their civic responsibilities and in strengthening our collective pursuit of a just, progressive and prosperous society,” he said.

Eno commended all camp officials and sister agencies, who made the orientation exercise a success.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Sam Pepple, led the governor’s representative through in the closing ceremony.

Pepple said that the corps members during the three weeks orientation exercise exhibited discipline, resilience with leadership capacity needed for the task of nation building.
