Fiscal Accountability: A/Ibom Govt Moves To Block Financial Leakages

The Akwa Ibom State Government has kick started action to block financial leakages, towards ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability in the state civil service with the commencement of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) on January 1, 2026.

With this, payment of all government revenues will be paid through TSA to help consolidate government revenue and ensure that expenditures are run from one source as approved in 2026 budget.

The state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno who stated this in his New Year broadcast to the people of the state on Thursday, said all state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) must comply as sanction awaits defaulters.

“The Treasury Single Account for the payment of all government revenues takes effect from (today), January 1st 2026 and all Ministries, Departments and Agencies are expected to comply with the circular earlier issued by the Secretary to the State Government detailing modalities for its implementation and requisite administrative outlays.

“The TSA regime will help consolidate our revenue and ensure that expenditures are run from one source as approved in our 2026 budget.

“I must state that the era of MDAs generating and spending funds outside the TSA is over as there will be consequences for defaulters,” Governor Eno said.

Governor Eno also announced plans to boost state economy and enhance improved living standards in the state in the new year.

“We will continue to invest strongly in agriculture to ensure food security. This year, we will launch our Tree Crop Revolution to empower farmers across all Local Government Areas to create generational wealth and strengthen our rural economy.

“Rural development will remain a priority. The one-project-per-local-government initiative, which we had long gone past, will be intensified, and all ongoing projects will be completed with strict accountability.

On the political scene, he urged all leaders and citizens to reject violence and division. “Let us embrace politics of ideas, unity and the common good.”

He also pledged commitment to the welfare of the elderly and retirees, saying, “compassion remains central to our governance. We will build more ARISE Compassionate Homes beyond the 335 already delivered and continue to reduce the N100 billion inherited gratuity backlog, having paid over ₦76 billion so far.

“In this new year, anchored on our faith in God, we will continue to deepen the peace we enjoy in Akwa Ibom State. Peace remains the foundation of growth and the reason our development efforts continue to yield great results,” Governor Eno added.

He applauded the security agencies in the state for the collaborative work they are doing in keeping our state safe and secure. “We will continue to work closely with them as security of the citizens is the first responsibility of government. We will spare nothing to ensuring our state remains safe and secure.”

The Governor thanked the youths for the massive and overwhelming show of support during their rally in Uyo few days ago, particularly the endorsement of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and himself for re-election come 2027.
