Christmas: Enugu Group Donates Cash, Food to the Sick, Widows

An Enugu-based group under the aegis of Roadites has donated some cash and numerous bags of rice to the sick, aged people, and widows residing at the Trans-Ekulu Phase 1 area of the city, as Christians across the globe celebrate Christmas.

Speaking with newsmen Thursday, the group’s leader, Mr Okwy Tagbo said such event was organised to assist vulnerable people in the spirit of Christmas.“We’re also using this outing to foster communal oneness. Besides, the welfare of the sick, the aged, and widows should be of serious concern to society because they too deserve a great sense of belonging as they continue to live among us.

“This is why we’re going from house to house giving the little we can to make them feel the warmth and joy of this festive period of Christmas,” he said.

Reacting, one of the beneficiaries, Lawrence Akubue expressed gratitude for the gesture, wishing the group success in its activities lined up for the Yuletide season.

“This is very kind of you, as what you’ve all done today is very rare these days. In fact, I’m very pleased and pray for more blessings upon you all,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Eunice Alakwe was full of praise for the gifts she received, urging other groups to emulate Roadites by giving generously to vulnerable people.

“I’m filled with joy, and I lack words to thank you enough for this show of affection and kindness. May you all be blessed with more resources to give and do more for society,” she said.

Other activities organised by the group to celebrate this year’s Christmas included jogging, friendly football match, ladies’ night, and thanksgiving service.
