Check Point Attack: We’ll Not Relent In Protecting Borders – NIS CG

Despite constant attacks by terrorists at the nation’s borders, especially the Nigeria-Benin Republic, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) officers will not relent in their effort to protect the country’s borders.

NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nana Nandap gave the assurance when he led senior officers of the Service on a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.

The NIS boss said she was in Kebbi State on a grief over the loss of the Service’s three officers recently killed by terrorists at Bakin Ruwa border check point in Bagudo Local Government area of the state.

“We came here to see things for ourselves, the condition of our officers at our border check points with a view to taking measures against reoccurrence of terrorists attacks,” the CG said.

She commented the Kebbi State government for the constant assistance to security personnel, most especially those at the border areas in the state.

She sought for collaboration between the government and security agencies to merge all check points on highways in order to fight attacks against terrorists.

Nandap also sought for sensitization to communities around border areas by the government and the traditional rulers to offer vital information regarding the activities of criminals, especially Lakurawa bandits.

Responding, Governor Nasir Idris, represented by his Deputy, Senator Abubakar Umar Tafida, thanked the NIS boss on her sympathy visit to the state and assured her of the state government’s support towards the fight against Lakurawa bandits attack on border check points in the state.

He extended government’s condolences on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris over the loss of officers killed by terrorists at Bakin Ruwa border check point in Bagudo Local Government area of the state.
