Reports from Yenagoa have it that Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, along with 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, have resigned from the PDP.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, confirmed the development in a statement in Yenagoa.

Sources close to the authorities in the state indicated an imminent formal defection to the ruling APC, following recent political shifts in the region.

This is coming after Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State defected to APC yesterday.

Four, out of the six South-South states – Cross River, Edo, Akwa Ibom and Delta, are APC-governed. With Governor Diri’s resignation from the PDP, Rivers State will remain the only state in the South-South left in PDP.

Political pundits have already declared that with Governor Diri’s resignation, he is on his way to the ruling All Progressives Congress while predicting that Sim Fubara of Rivers state might be the next.
