Bauchi Governor Receives Safety Ambassador Award, Says ‘to hell with APC’

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has been conferred with Safety Ambassador Award by the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) in recognition of his administration’s commitment to promoting safety standards and best practices in governance. The award was presented at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Bauchi.

The recognition comes at a time of heightened political tension, following allegations of terrorism financing leveled against the Governor and the recent detention of the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

ISPON, a professional body established in 1980 to advance occupational health, safety, and environmental standards across Nigeria, said the award was based on Governor Mohammed’s support for safety-conscious policies and institutional reforms in Bauchi State.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Governor Mohammed expressed dissatisfaction and concern with what he described as the federal government’s selective use of anti-corruption agencies to intimidate opposition figures. He noted that despite enjoying constitutional immunity as a sitting governor, actions taken against key members of his administration appeared politically motivated.

The Governor also criticized what he described as long-standing neglect of Bauchi State by the federal government, citing the absence of critical federal infrastructure such as major road networks and sustainable water supply projects. He stressed that the lack of federal presence has continued to place additional burdens on the state government.

Reaffirming his political stance, Governor Mohammed declared his unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating clearly that he would not defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under any circumstances.

Presenting the award, ISPON lifetime Ambassador, Dr. Haruna Malgwi, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for prioritizing safety, institutional responsibility, and the welfare of workers and citizens across the state. He described the Governor as a worthy ambassador for safety advocacy in public administration.
