US President Trump Says Washington Is open To Engaging With Iran To Negotiate A Deal

US President Donald Trump has indicated that Washington could be willing to resume discussions with Iran, according to a report by the Times of Israel on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Trump’s latest remarks appear to represent a change from his earlier repeated statements that he was not interested in negotiating with the Islamic Republic.

The US president said Iran was now urgently seeking an agreement and suggested that his administration was prepared to consider renewed engagement with Tehran.

“The failing nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump also stated that the final decision on whether the United States would participate in talks with Iran would be made by him personally. However, his comments indicated that negotiations remained a possibility for his administration.

The latest development comes amid an ongoing war and previous rounds of discussions between the United States and Iran. Trump’s statement could therefore represent a change in Washington’s approach as efforts to find a way forward in the conflict continue.

Despite signalling a possible willingness to engage, Trump has not confirmed that formal negotiations between the two countries are about to begin.

Instead, he has left open the possibility of further discussions, while maintaining that he would personally determine whether the United States would proceed with talks.

The comments have consequently raised the possibility of another diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran after Trump previously appeared to rule out negotiations with Iran.

For now, however, the United States has not officially announced the launch of a new round of formal negotiations.

Trump’s position, as reflected in his latest statement, is that discussions with Iran remain an option that could be considered by Washington.

The development comes as both countries remain involved in the ongoing conflict and as previous discussions have taken place between their representatives.

Trump’s latest remarks therefore suggest that Washington may be reconsidering its earlier position on negotiations, although no formal agreement to begin fresh talks has been confirmed.
