2027: If All Christians Decide Not To Vote For Tinubu, He Can Never Be President — Bishop Idowu-Fearon
In a recent interview with The Sun on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Bishop Dr. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, former Secretary General of the worldwide Anglican Communion and Founder of the Kaduna Centre for the Study of Christian-Muslim Relations, has stated that no presidential candidate in Nigeria can win an election by relying only on support from members of one religion
The respected cleric stressed that Nigeria’s population and political structure make it impossible for any candidate to secure victory through religious voting alone, according to him, the country is too diverse for any religious group to dominate the electoral process without support from people of other faiths.
Idowu-Fearon explained that both Christians and Muslims play significant roles in Nigeria’s elections, he noted that if Christians were to vote as a single bloc against a candidate, that candidate would struggle to win, at the same time, he said Muslims alone cannot determine the outcome of a presidential election without support from other sections of the population.
The bishop argued that the reality of Nigerian politics requires cooperation, understanding, and partnership across religious and ethnic lines, he said the country’s electoral system encourages politicians to seek support from different communities rather than focus on a single religious group.
According to him, political leaders who hope to govern Nigeria successfully must appeal to citizens based on competence, national unity, and policies that address the needs of the people, he warned against attempts to divide Nigerians along religious lines for political advantage.
”If all Christians in Nigeria decide not to vote for Tinubu, he can never be President. I immediately extend the same argument to the Muslim electorate,” he said.
