There Were So Many Sycophants Around Buhari, They Betrayed The Trust He Gave Them–Daura

According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, September 7, 2026, vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Lawal Musa Daura, has said President Bola Tinubu is “not a stranger” to him and can be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.

Daura made the statement while discussing the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections and his personal relationship with the President.

He maintained that Tinubu was not beyond defeat at the polls, despite being the incumbent President and a major contender in the forthcoming election.

Daura stated this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he spoke about his relationship with Tinubu, his political experience working with former President Muhammadu Buhari, his partnership with APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, and the 2027 presidential contest.

The APM vice-presidential candidate discussed the political circumstances surrounding the forthcoming election and explained his position on the possibility of defeating the incumbent administration.

Asked whether Tinubu could be beaten in the election, Daura responded that it could happen.

He attributed his position to what he described as several errors made by the President’s administration.

According to him, the performance of the government provided an opportunity for other political parties and candidates seeking to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Daura maintained that the outcome of the election would ultimately depend on the choices made by Nigerian voters.

Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, also spoke about his relationship with Tinubu.

He said their relationship went beyond politics, stressing that he knows the President well.

The APM vice-presidential candidate said his familiarity with Tinubu gave him a basis for his assessment of the President and his administration.

He also discussed his political experience and his partnership with Makinde as they prepare to contest the 2027 presidential election under the APM.

Speaking about his relationship with former President Muhammadu Buhari, under whom he served as Director-General of the Department of State Services, Daura said he still missed the late president.

He recalled the risks he took while serving Buhari and spoke about his experiences during his time in office.

Daura also criticised what he described as the influence of sycophants around the former president, alleging that some of them betrayed Buhari’s trust and took advantage of his administration.

He said, “There were so many sycophants around Buhari; they betrayed the trust he gave them and took advantage of that government.”
