No Single Agency, Tier Of Govt, Or Community That Can Secure Nigeria Alone – Tinubu

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Monday, August 31, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, has cautioned that relying solely on military operations will not produce enduring peace in the North-Central region, stressing the need to confront the deeper social, economic and environmental conditions contributing to insecurity.

He said addressing these factors was necessary to achieve sustainable stability and peace across the region.

Tinubu also advocated stronger cooperation among the various stakeholders responsible for security and development in the region.

He called for governments, security agencies, traditional and religious institutions, local communities, youths, women, development partners and private sector organisations to work together in confronting insecurity and rebuilding stability in the North-Central region.

The President made the remarks on Monday at the 2026 North Central Regional Security Summit held in Makurdi, Benue State.

He was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who delivered the President’s message to participants at the summit.

Mr. Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser to the SGF on Media and Publicity, disclosed this in a statement.

He explained that the summit was organised by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North Central.

The meeting was convened under the theme, “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability.”

Tinubu noted that the security challenges confronting the North-Central region had become increasingly complex and could no longer be effectively addressed by one security organisation, level of government or community acting independently.

He stressed that the changing nature of insecurity required a broader and more coordinated approach involving all relevant stakeholders.

The President further explained that criminal groups were no longer restricted by administrative boundaries, as they moved between states and local government areas while carrying out their activities.

He therefore emphasised the importance of stronger cooperation, improved coordination and effective intelligence sharing among the relevant authorities and communities to contain the security threats affecting the region.

He said, “No single agency, no single tier of government, and no single community can secure this region acting alone.
