Gov Buni Chairs 19th Security Council Meeting, Orders Stronger Measures To Protect Yobe Citizens
…Reiterates Commitment to Peace, Security and Protection of Lives and Property as Political Activities Intensify

Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Mai Mala Buni, CON, has presided over the 19th Routine Security Council Meeting of the state, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining peace, protecting lives and property, and strengthening security across the state.
The meeting, held on Monday, 24th August, 2026 at the Government House, Damaturu, brought together heads of security and law enforcement agencies operating in Yobe State to review the prevailing security situation and assess measures for further strengthening the state’s security architecture.
Governor Buni, who was represented at the meeting by his Deputy, His Excellency Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, said the meeting was convened to critically review and analyse developments across the state and ensure that citizens can continue to live, work and pursue their legitimate activities in safety.
He emphasised the need for sustained vigilance, effective coordination and timely response by security agencies, particularly as political activities and campaigns begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor appealed to citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime and maintaining the relative peace enjoyed across the state.
He commended the heads of security agencies for their continued commitment and cooperation, noting that the Routine Security Council Meeting provides an important platform for government and security stakeholders to assess emerging threats, review existing strategies and adopt appropriate measures to consolidate the gains already achieved.
Security Agencies to Strengthen Political-Era Collaboration
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Usman Kanfani Jibrin; Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd.); Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); and General Manager, YOROTA, highlighted key resolutions reached at the meeting.
The Council resolved that security agencies would further strengthen collaboration and intelligence-sharing with political organisations as political campaigns and other activities commence across the state.
The meeting also cautioned politicians against sponsoring or harbouring political thugs, stressing the need for all political actors to respect constituted authority and conduct their activities within the bounds of the law.
Security agencies were equally directed to enhance coordination and synergy with political organisations and other stakeholders to ensure maximum security during political rallies, campaigns, meetings and other public gatherings.
The Council reaffirmed that the peace and stability being enjoyed in Yobe must not be compromised by political activities, urging all stakeholders to place the collective interest and security of the state above partisan considerations.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje; Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command; Brigade Commander, 27 Task Force Brigade; Director, State Security Service; Commandant, NSCDC; Controller, Nigeria Immigration Service; Commandant, NDLEA; Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Security; General Manager, YOROTA; and the Director and Deputy Director, Cabinet and Security.
Governor Buni’s administration remains committed to working closely with security agencies, traditional institutions, political stakeholders and citizens to preserve the peace and security that are critical to the development and prosperity of Yobe State.
