According to a report by the Madrid Universal on Monday, August 24, Raul Asencio remains determined to secure his place at Real Madrid despite uncertainty surrounding his future. The academy graduate wants to prove himself to Jose Mourinho and demonstrate that he deserves a role in the manager’s plans.
According to AS, Asencio has made a strong impression since returning from his summer break. His attitude during training has reportedly pleased the coaching staff, while his recovery from a muscle problem has progressed quicker than initially expected.
However, competition for places has increased following Ibrahima Konate’s arrival. Asencio also continues dealing with a lingering tibial issue, leaving questions about his fitness and whether he can establish himself within Mourinho’s preferred defensive options.
The defender has already worked under several managers during his developing career. After making his senior debut under Carlo Ancelotti, he experienced different approaches with Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa before Mourinho became the latest coach to influence his career.
Rather than allowing increased competition to affect his ambitions, Asencio returned from holiday focused on winning Mourinho’s confidence. His commitment reportedly impressed the staff, although his determination was interrupted by a muscle injury during preseason preparations.
That setback forced Asencio to miss Real Madrid’s final four preseason fixtures and their La Liga opener against Espanyol. He has since worked closely with the rehabilitation team, reportedly accelerating his recovery by approximately one week.
Asencio recently completed part of Monday’s training session at Valdebebas and could return fully to group training by Thursday. If his rehabilitation continues smoothly, he could potentially feature in next Sunday’s league fixture against Malaga.
The defender also requested Dani Carvajal’s No. 2 shirt following the club legend’s departure, seeing it as a tribute to his academy journey. Asencio admires Carvajal’s career and hopes to honour that legacy while continuing his own Real Madrid story.
