How NRS Boss Responded When Asked How He Feels That People Live In Poverty While Govt Lives Large

The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended the lifestyle of government officials while responding to questions about public concerns over poverty and perceived luxury among those in power.

Adedeji made the comment while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.

During the interview, Okinbaloye asked the NRS chairman whether he was concerned about the perception that government officials lived lavishly while a large number of Nigerians continued to struggle with poverty.

“Are you not bothered that there is a feeling that people in government live large and in luxury, and there is a lot of poverty?” the presenter asked.

Responding, Adedeji pointed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s movements as an example, claiming that the President did not routinely use a convoy for his trips between home and office.

“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy,” Adedeji said.

His response has generated attention amid continuing public discussions about the economic difficulties facing Nigerians and perceptions concerning the lifestyle and spending of political office holders.

The exchange comes at a time when the Federal Government continues to face pressure over the rising cost of living, poverty and the impact of its economic reforms on households.

Adedeji’s comments have consequently sparked debate over whether the personal lifestyle of political leaders adequately reflects the broader economic realities confronting ordinary Nigerians.
