KACRAN Affirms Yobe Farmers-Herders Peace Model, Hail Gov Buni

By Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has declared Yobe State a shining national example of peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, revealing that no major conflict resulting in loss of life or destruction of property has been recorded since the commencement of the 2026 farming season.
The declaration was made on Saturday during a press conference at the Advisers Office Complex in Damaturu as part of KACRAN’s ongoing Nationwide House-to-House Farmers-Herders Sensitization Exercise for Sustainable Peace and 2027 Electoral Preparedness.
The conference brought together representatives from all the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State, the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Mai Mala Buni, security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and members of the media.
Presenting the communiqué, KACRAN National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, said reports received from Local Government chapters and security stakeholders confirmed that Yobe has remained largely peaceful throughout the current farming season.
According to him, the sustained support of the Yobe State Government for KACRAN’s annual sensitization campaign has transformed the relationship between farmers and herders from one of suspicion to genuine partnership.
He noted that both groups now recognize themselves as critical contributors to food security and economic growth rather than adversaries.
KACRAN attributed the achievement to what it described as the proactive and inclusive leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose commitment to dialogue, mutual understanding, and conflict prevention has continued to preserve harmony across rural communities.
As part of its resolutions, the association urged farmers to avoid encroaching on gazetted grazing reserves and cattle routes, while herders were advised to refrain from grazing on cultivated farmlands or destroying crops.
The conference also called on all parties to reject self-help and jungle justice, insisting that disputes arising from land clearing, farming, harvesting, or crop damage should be reported to constituted authorities for peaceful resolution.
KACRAN further appealed to herders across the country to respect the laws and customs of their host communities and encouraged both farmers and herders to report suspicious activities in bushes and rural areas to security agencies.
The association commended Governor Buni for what it described as his total commitment to agriculture and rural peacebuilding, and also congratulated Dr. Mohammed Goje on his appointment and confirmation as a key coordinator of the governor’s people-oriented policies and programmes.
In addition, KACRAN praised local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and security agencies for their professionalism and dedication to sustaining peace in Yobe State.
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) was equally applauded for its investments in security, water supply, housing, roads, bridges, schools, palliatives, and other social interventions across Yobe and the wider North East region.
The conference expressed profound appreciation to Governor Buni for what it called his swift intervention in preventing potential farmers-herders, social, and political conflicts, thereby ensuring that Yobe remains “an oasis of peace and unity where citizens see themselves as one family with a common destiny.”
KACRAN concluded by appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors across the federation to emulate Governor Buni’s stakeholder-engagement model in resolving conflicts peacefully and strengthening national unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
