Bauchi Radio MD, Emerges North East BON Zonal Chairman

The Managing Director of Bauchi State Radio Corporation (BRC), Umar Muhammad Shira, has been elected as Zonal Chairman, Zone B of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).
Shira’s emergence was unopposed as made public recently by Yemisi Bamgbose, PhD, Executive Secretary, Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).
In a letter he signed and addressed to the new Zonal Chairman, Yemisi Bamgbose wrote: “This is to inform you that you have been elected unopposed as the Zonal Chairman, Zone B of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).”
Yemisi Bamgbose further stated that,
“The outgoing Zonal Chairman and all BON members in the zone have been notified.
“While congratulating you on the victory, the Secretariat hopes that your tenure will
consolidate the achievements of your predecessors and bring unity among BON member stations in your zone,” he informed.
On inauguration, the Secretary General said, “The outgoing Chairman, in conjunction with the BON Head Office will notify you and other members when and where your inauguration will take place.”
Umar Mohammed Shira is a Nigerian media professional from Bauchi State who is best known for serving as the Managing Director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC).
According to official announcements and news reports, he was appointed Managing Director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in March 2025.
The state government described him as an experienced media professional with a strong background in broadcasting and media management, expressing confidence that he would improve the Corporation’s professionalism and public service.
Since his appointment, he has publicly reaffirmed BRC’s commitment to upholding the Nigerian Broadcasting Code and promoting ethical, balanced and objective broadcasting.
