Akwa Ibom Governor Frowns At Contractors’ Slow Pace, Gives Two-week Ultimatum

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has threatened to revoke the contract for the construction of Judiciary Quarters in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital following what he observed as slow base of work.

Governor Eno, during an unscheduled visit to the construction site along Idongesit Nkanga Avenue in Uyo on Wednesday, expressed dissatisfaction over what he observed as slow pace of work by contractors on site in spite of the funds released.

He gave contractors a two-week ultimatum to significantly improve the pace of work or risk having their contracts revoked.

Governor Eno also vowed to recover any funds owed to the government, insisting that accountability would be enforced at every level.

The Governor who, during the visit, discovered that the site was virtually deserted despite funds having been released for the project, declared that delays and poor supervision on government projects would no longer be tolerated.

The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit development of five-bedroom duplexes designed as institutional housing for judges and top judicial officials in Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Eno cautioned government officials responsible for monitoring the project, stressing that the administration should not have to chase contractors and workers to deliver on jobs they have already been paid to execute.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to timely project delivery, Governor Eno said the Judiciary Quarters project, which commenced in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.

The inspection ended with a clear message that government projects will be closely monitored, and that MDAs, contractors and workers who fail to deliver on their responsibilities will face some consequences.
