Bauchi NDLEA Boss Unfolds Achievements In Seven Months

The Bauchi State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized 2.248.591kgs about 2 tons of assorted drugs in the last seven months and arrests.

The State Commander of NDLEA, Hassan Yaqub made the disclosure during a press conference to commemorate the 2026 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking, at the Bauchi Command on Friday.

According to him, “Today is yet another day, we are marking and equally assessing our operations to know if we are lagging in terms of our collective efforts in the fight against drugs in Bauchi State and environs. This year’s theme is “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses”.

The Commander explained that, it is worthy of note that there is nexus between drug and crime, hence the need to join hands to fight and tackle this wicked cankerworm. Guardians and families cry and unfortunately lose their loved ones to drugs.

According to him, “Drug is a gateway and mother of all crimes, to this end we in NDLEA are firm, standing and doing all it takes to fight back for the larger society to be at rest.”

He further added that the Bauchi Command of the NDLEA, remains resolute and committed to
fight, arrest and seize drugs and properties of any person or persons found in this shady and nefarious act.

Hassan Yaqub said, ‘It is worthy to note once more that, I came on board to pilot the affairs of the Command on the 31st October, 2025, virtually seven months now, with the hard work, commitment and resilience of my dogged officers and men.”

According to him, “It is worthy to note that uncompressing stand, has made the arrests and seizures possible within this period, and I am assuring you that we shall continue in this direction to unravel more and more.”

He insists that the command will not be distracted by any person from doing what is right in the interest of the nation.

Yaqub urged all stakeholders to join the moving train in the quest to fight the nefarious business so that they can relocate to other states, as “Bauchi State is no go area for drug dealers and their agents”,

On prosecution, the NDLEA boss revealed that “So far, our prosecution unit is not left out in the fight against drugs. As at present, our conviction stood at 79, with 74 awaiting trial and filed 105 new cases while 12 suspects are presently in detention.

Revealing that a cannabis sativa farm was discovered around Bogoro LGA with an arrest of one person and seizure of 108kg of cannabis sativa.

On drug demand reduction, care, treatment and rehabilitation, the Commander stated that, “the care, treatment and rehabilitation unit/centre is also up and doing in terms of putting its best to our drug dependent in order to shape their lives to become purposeful members of the society.

“Between November, 2025 and June, 2026 a total number of 67 drug dependents were treated and rehabilitated, while a total number of 12 persons are currently receiving counseling and rehabilitation services in residential basis.”

Speaking on War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), Hassan Yaqub stated that, “WADA activities have achieved greatly as the Command carried out over 300 sensitization programmes in Churches, Mosques, Motor Parks, Schools etc and we were able to reach out to about 1.5 million target audience across the state capital and the 20 Local Government Areas.”

He finally appreciated the contributions of the media, community, pharmacists, Bauchi State Government, the Youth Corpers and other stakeholders in the state, despite their tight schedules to participate in the celebration.
