12 Kano Schools To Compete In Sam Okwaraji Memorial Football Cup

…Kicks off at Sani Abacha Stadium

Twelves secondary schools in Kano State have successfully scaled through the screening exercise ahead of the opening ceremony of the maiden edition of Sam Okwaraji Memorial Football Championship.

The tournament sponsored by the Sam Okwaraji Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian Schools Sports Federation, NSSF, is expected to commence Friday, 26th June, 2026 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

The winner will represent the state at the national finals of the championship scheduled to hold later in the year.

According to the Director of the Schools Sports of the state Ministry of Education, Kabiru Shehu, the successful schools include Rumfa College, Aminu Kano Commercial College, Kano Teachers College and Muhammad Vice Adamu Secondary School.

He further explained that the rest are Government Secondary School, Gwale, Government Secondary School, Sharada, Sports Academy Kofar Nassarawa, Governor’s College, Government Secondary School, Sabuwar Kofa and Government Secondary School, Izazuddeen.

The director charged the participating schools to give the organisers all the maximum support and cooperation towards a hitch-free tournament.

While expressing appreciation to the state Commissioner of Education for his commitment and support, he assured that the school sports section of the ministry will continue to do their best towards the overall development of various sporting activities in the state and the country at large.
