More Than A Month After, Have Nigerians Moved On From Abducted Oyo School Children And Teachers?

More than a month after the abduction of school children and teachers in Oyo State, concerns continue to grow over what many describe as a slow and ineffective response from the Bola Tinubu government, as the victims remain in captivity with no confirmed breakthrough in rescue efforts.

The incident, which initially triggered nationwide outrage and renewed calls for stronger security around schools, appears to have gradually faded from sustained public attention, even as families of the abducted victims continue to endure deep uncertainty and emotional distress.

Relatives of the students and teachers say they have received little or no concrete information regarding the progress of rescue operations, leaving them increasingly frustrated and desperate for answers. Many accuse authorities of failing to act with urgency in the critical early days following the abduction.

Critics argue that the handling of the case reflects broader weaknesses in Nigeria’s response to mass abductions, particularly the slow coordination between security agencies and government officials in locating and rescuing victims.

Questions are also being raised about the effectiveness of security strategies deployed after such incidents, with some observers alleging that government responses often become reactive rather than preventive, allowing kidnappers to consolidate their advantage.

The absence of visible progress has intensified public concern, with some Nigerians questioning whether enough is being done to prioritise the safety of school children in vulnerable regions.

For the families still waiting, however, the issue remains deeply personal and unresolved, as they continue to call on authorities to intensify efforts and bring their loved ones home alive.
