… Herders, Farmers in focus

As the 2026/2027 farming season commences and at a time when Nigeria is facing some of its most severe economic challenges in over six decades, many of which are exacerbated by farmer-herder conflicts, KACRAN has reaffirms its commitment to peace, unity, food security and national prosperity.
In a press statement signed by Khalid Muhammad Bello who is the National President of the association said, as a peace-loving association working persistently to build harmony between pastoralists and their host communities, KACRAN appealed thus:
“Our herders nationwide to exercise restraint and avoid the destruction of farmlands during grazing or migration. Protecting crops is protecting Nigeria’s food supply.”
The association stressed that open routes are vital for the peaceful movement of cattle and for the coexistence of both groups in the agricultural sector.
The statement outlined pressing realities that necessitated its appeal. National security remains a critical concern, with Nigeria facing multiple security challenges that drain immense financial resources — funds that could otherwise bolster development efforts.
The impact on agriculture is evident, as insecurity has disrupted various sectors, displacing millions and making large expanses of farmland inaccessible.
KACRAN expressed profound appreciation to the National and State Coordinators of L-PRES for their ongoing intervention in Yobe State, particularly the conversion of pastoralists’ motorized boreholes to solar-powered systems and the construction of new water facilities.
This initiative is critical for livestock welfare and community health. “We passionately appeal to the World Bank and the Yobe State Government to increase funding support to L-PRES to enable them continuation and expansion of this laudable work,” according to the statement.
KACRAN commended Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for reducing tractor hire costs from ₦100,000 to ₦50,000 per day and for commitment to reclaiming grazing reserves.
