Ibom Ladies Golf Championship 2026 Hosts 100 Golfers

First ever Ibom Ladies Golf Championship 2026, a celebration of sportsmanship, is planned to bring together, over 100 captains across Nigeria contesting for prominence and prizes, just as Ibom Golf Course Management in Uyo, is the co-host the tournament.

The 2-day event put together by Ibom Ladies Golf and Country Club as host, teed-off on Friday, March 27 through Saturday, 28, 2026 at the 18-hole Golf Course of Ibom Hotel and Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Unveiling the activities, Chairman of the
Central Planning Committee of Championship 2026, Lady Annie Essienette, said that the tournament would be an amazing experience for participants and fans.

Essienette said earlier that the National President of Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Lami Ahmed would lead members the national body to grace the event under the theme: Bloom.

She added that the 100 golfers would include both females and males at the ratio of 60:40 in different categories, adding that the veterans would be from age 55 and above.

“Aside from prizes to be won, the competition is aimed at inspiring prospective female golfers by showcasing their talents as well as resilience of women in male dominated sports.

“Economic benefits to Akwa Ibom as a tourism destination is another aspect as hotels and restaurants in Uyo will get higher patronage. Network and serious business connections will flourish within and outside Akwa Ibom State,” Essienette added.

Captain of Ibom Ladies Golf and Country Club, Lady Maryann Udoka said that the championship which is the first of its kind, has a sustainability plan that will overrun her leadership.

From the partners, Heads of Sales and Marketing of Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Lady Idorienyen Ekong said the management of the hotel is deeply interested in the success of the tournament.

From Ibom Air, Lady Imelda Abba, a Group Manager, Corporate Services of the Airline said Ibom Air is proud and delighted to be part of the inaugural championship of Ibom Ladies Golf and Country Club.

“For Ibom lady golfers to come up with this championship is an applaudable feat. Ibom Air is a gender inclusive company that recognises what the women have done and what golf does to everyone,” Abba said.

Speaking also, Captain of Ibom Golf Club, Lady Isua Archibong commended the females section of the club who are all professionals in their individual fields for their insight of coming together for tournament after about 20 years of existence of the Ibom Golf and Country Club.

“Friday and Saturday are a testament and statement to the fact that the golfing community of Akwa Ibom has grown beyond being a make-up unstable clubhouse only,” she posited.
