Yobe Police Urges Vigilance Following Maiduguri Bomb Blasts

The Yobe State Police Command has expressed deep sympathy to the government and people of Borno State, following the unfortunate incidents of bomb explosions that occurred on 16th March, 2026, at about 1830 hours, at different locations within Maiduguri.

A statement by SP Dungus Abdulkareem who is the PPRO of the Command said, it calls on residents of Yobe State to remain calm, vigilant, and security-conscious, particularly within and around their communities, public places, and other crowded environments.

Following a State Security Council meeting held at the Yobe State Government House on 16th March, 2026, involving all security agencies in the state, comprehensive security measures have been put in place across the state ahead of the forthcoming Sallah festivities.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, psc, fdc, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Units, and Intelligence Departments to ensure robust security coverage at worship centres, recreational facilities, public parks, and other strategic locations before, during and after the Sallah festivities.

Members of the public are strongly encouraged to collaborate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information regarding suspicious persons, objects, vehicles, or motorcycles to the nearest police station.

Motorists and other road users are also warned to avoid reckless and dangerous driving during the festive period in order to ensure public safety.

The Command further noted with concern, the recurring act during previous festivities where some youths were seen carrying dangerous objects while celebrating. Such acts will not be tolerated, and anyone found in possession of dangerous weapons or harmful substances will be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

Communities are also advised to strengthen neighbourhood watch and community-based vigilance as part of proactive security measures.
