Kebbi: Vehicular Movements Resume At Tsamiya, Kamba Borders

Kebbi State Customs Controller, Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim has officially reopened Tsamiya and Kamba borders of the state, marking resumption of vehicular activities to Niger and Benin Republics.

Speaking on Monday during the reopening ceremony held at Kamba border highway, Matawalle said “We are here today to officially reopen the two important borders in Kebbi State – Tsamiya and Kamba on behalf of the Comptroller General of Customs Service, CGC Adeniyi Bashir Adewale, for the continuous movement of persons and legal commodities freely into our neighbouring countries of Benin and Niger Republics.”

He added that the reopening of the borders was as a result of order given by the CGC Adeniyi on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their reopening after a stakeholders meeting held on Friday in Abuja and another on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

Matawalle further stated that now borders are free for transportation by businessmen but, with carrying only legal goods and consignments from Nigeria to Benin and Niger Republics.

He warned that officials will not hesitate to arrest any businessman or transporter who violates Customs’s laid down rules concerning the reopening of the borders.

He called on traditional rulers, traders and other stakeholders to enlighten the general public concerning the laid down rules.

Highlight of the occasion includes the official reopening of the border-line entrance gate between Nigeria, Niger and Benin Republics at Kamba which instantly allows the movement of trucks and other vehicles from Nigeria.

Chairman of the Markerters Association in Kebbi State, Idris Shuaibu Bagudo thanked President Tinubu, Governor Nasir Idris and Customs GC, Adeniyi and all stakeholders for the success of the reopening.

He assured of his members’ compliance with laid down rules by the Customs Service.
