Kebbi: Customs CG, Adeniyi Reopens Tsamiya Border Port For Operations

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi has directed the opening of Tsamiya border port to allow economic operation opportunities between the border communities in Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon after its closure for some years.

He gave the directive in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State during a stakeholders meeting held at the Presidential Lodge with Governor Nasir Idris, ministers, representatives from Niger and Benin Republics, as well as ex-Customs Service officers from Kebbi and other senior Customs officers attached to the CG.

Adeniyi further disclosed that it has become necessary by the Service to reopen Tsamiya border enroute to Benin and Niger Republics for its vital importance in terms of economic growth for the country.

Another reason the CG mentioned, is the congestion of trucks on the highway border where over 200 trucks blocked the transportation channels in the area.

“So, we reopen this highway in Tsamiya border in Kebbi State in order to decongest these trucks and allow the economic operators to operate freely in alignment with the Customs laws,” CG Adeniyi said.

He warned operators to desist from operating outside the corridors approved by the Customs Service, or be arrested.

He also commended the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris and his counterparts from other states of the neighbouring countries for their support and cooperation towards the success in reopening of the border.
