Yobe Varsity Gets New Vice-Chancellor, Registrar

‎‎The Yobe State Government has approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University (YSU), Damaturu.

‎The approval of the new VC was granted by Governor Mai Mala Buni, following recommendation by the university’s Governing Council at its meeting held on January 15, 2026 accordingly.
‎
This appointment, made on the recommendation of the University’s Governing Council, was confirmed during an extraordinary council meeting held on January 15, 2026, by the ‎ Chairman of the Governing Council of the University Alhaji Ahmed Goniri and takes immediate effect respectively.

‎According to the statement “The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University (YSU) Damaturu, following a recommendation by the Governing Council of the university at its meeting held 15th January, 2026 in Damaturu.”

The new VC ‎Prof. Tahir is a Professor of General Surgery and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Until his appointment, he served as the Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital, Damaturu respectively.

‎According to the statement, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor will take over from Prof. Bukar Jamri, who was earlier appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

‎In a related development, the Governing Council also approved the appointment of Isa Dallari as the substantive Registrar of the university.
‎
‎According to the statement “The Governing Council of Yobe State University has approved the appointment of Mallam Isa Audu Dallari as the substantive Registrar of Yobe State University, Damaturu, at its meeting held on 15the January 2026.”
‎
‎The appointment followed a recommendation by the Selection Committee, in accordance with the Yobe State University Law, 2006 as amended earlier.
‎
‎They started that Isa Dallari is currently a Director of Administration at Yobe State University, Damaturu YSU.
