Kebbi Govt Responds To MURIC’s Allegation Regarding N10bn Loan

Kebbi State Government has responded to recent allegation by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) over securing 10 billion naira loan for the state’s Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA) to secure more Hajji seats for 2026 intending Pilgrims in the state.

It would be recalled that MURIC has condemned the Kebbi State Government’s action which was viral in social media platforms.

In a swift reaction, the state Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi noted at a press briefing on Tuesday evening at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, that MURIC misunderstood the reasons behind securing the loan.

According to the Commissioner, the Executive Director of MURIC could have made through findings on why the loan was granted to the Pilgrims Welfare Agency by the government before going to the media to level allegations.

The Commissioner further confirmed that government granted the loan of N10 billion to Hajj Operation body of the state and the chairman of Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Faruk Aliyu Yaro, an experienced helmsman who has already repaid the loan to the government.

“For avoidance of doubt, available records of repayment of the N10 billion loan to government can be obtained from the Pilgrims Welfare Agency office in Birnin Kebbi,” Yakubu Ahmed said.

The Commissioner, however, advised MURIC not to allow itself to be used by mischief makers in tarnishing the image of individuals or organisations’ who are committed to acting in the best interests of the people.
