Chamba Community Elects First Monarch in Enugu State

The enlarged Chamba community in Enugu State has unanimously elected Alhaji Yahaya Yakubu Farenvan as its traditional ruler in the state.

The community’s chairman, Umaru Musa Dasin Yelwa said Thursday that the election was in compliance with the directive of Gangwarin Ganye Alhaji Umaru Adamu Sanda who earlier charged Chamba communities across the country to elect traditional rulers to lead and guide them.

“The election eventually fared well, quite contrary to the challenges we experienced earlier. We wish our new traditional ruler the best of reign in sound health with long life,” he said.

“Today is a day of joy. We’re happy to elect this our traditional ruler because he’s a philanthropist who loves the common people. He’s also a businessman who has built m any people in this state. We believe that the Chamba community here will witness progress under his leadership,” said Moses Mustapha Yuguda, Secretary-General of the Chamba community in the state.

Reacting to his election, Alhaji Farenvan who described his election as an act of God called on his people to be peace-loving and law-abiding so as to live in harmony with their host state.

“I therefore solicit for the support and cooperation of every resident Chamba person for us to succeed as a community in this state,” he said.

The election of Alhaji Yahaya Yakubu Farenvan as traditional ruler is the first of its kind for the Chamba community, a position in which the sexagenarian will oversee the communal affairs of the northeastern ethnic group in Enugu State.
