The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the construction of a 25-kilometer asphalt overlay road linking Buni-Yadi to Magza in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Speaking at the site handover, the Yobe State Coordinator of the Commission, Mr. Ali Abbas, said the project formed part of NEDC’s ongoing interventions aimed at improving infrastructure and connectivity across the North-East region.

He said the project, to be executed by Grayland Multiple Investment Limited, would be completed within 12 months, adding that it was designed under Pillars 7 and 11 of the North-East Stabilisation and Development Masterplan — focusing on purposeful infrastructure and regional connectivity.

“The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, remain committed to rebuilding and modernising infrastructure across the North-East,” Abbas stated.

He listed some completed and ongoing projects in Yobe State to include the construction of bridges and culverts damaged by the 2024 floods. Among them are bridges at Damaturu–Gujba, Jumbam, Kaliyari, Tandari, and Potiskum, in addition to other ongoing works in various locations.

Abbas reaffirmed that the Commission, in collaboration with the Yobe State Government, would continue to assess and execute more development projects to boost post-conflict recovery and economic activities.

Yobe Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakili, described the Buni-Yadi–Magza road as a vital link for agricultural and commercial activities in the state.

“Beyond connecting communities, this road will open up the southern part of the state and enhance the movement of goods and farm produce. It is one of the most strategic roads in Yobe after the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway,” Wakili said.

He lauded NEDC for its continued partnership and expressed optimism that the contractor would deliver quality work on schedule.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Grayland Multiple Investment Ltd., Musa Abubakar Imam, assured stakeholders of timely completion of the project.

“The entire stretch from Damaturu to Magza covers 77 kilometers, and this phase of 25 kilometers will be completed within the stipulated timeframe,” Imam said.

He added that his company was committed to maintaining high construction standards and supporting the Commission’s infrastructure drive in the region.

The project is part of NEDC’s broader mandate to restore critical infrastructure, improve regional connectivity and support sustainable recovery in the North-East.
