Akwa Ibom: Police Nab 3-man Armed Robbery Gang

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers who have been tormenting residents in Essien Udim Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement in Uyo on Monday, naming the suspects as Akan Udo, 40 from Ikot Edem Udo Village; Namso Monday, 20 from Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village, all in Essien Udim Local Government.

DSP John explained that they were arrested on the 7th of this month while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments from a native doctor who escaped arrest.

“On Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 20:00 hours, Police operatives, acting on credible intelligence apprehended two suspects at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village.

The suspects, as aforementioned, the PPRO said, “were arrested while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments. The native doctor, who is suspected of aiding the criminal gang is currently at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

“During the subsequent investigation, a third suspect was identified and arrested in connection with the same armed robbery incident. He was identified as Mbata Udo, 40 from Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village.

According to PPRO, the operatives during investigation and search at their residence, recovered one Locally Made Pistol, One Locally Made Revolver Pistol, Sixteen Machetes, Six Mobile Phones, ⁠Two Big Generators, One Battle Axe and other incriminating items”.

She also added that the suspects would be charged to court after Investigations were completed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has commended the officers for their diligence, reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to rooting out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.
