Cameroon Unrest: 4 Confirmed Dead Following 92-Year-Old’s Re-election

No fewer than four Cameroonians have allegedly been killed in Cameroon when ardent supporters of opposition leader, Issa Tchiroma clashed with security operatives.

President Paul Biya was on Monday, declared winner of the 2025 Presidential Election in the country, defeating his close rival, Issa Tchiroma as announced by the country’s Constitutional Council

The Council announced that the 92-year-old Biya, who has been in power for 43 years, had secured 53.66% of the votes.

The electoral body who announced the results said Issa Tchiroma, the Cameroon opposition leader, secured 35.19% of the total votes cast.

Prior to the announcement, Issa Tchiroma had been reported as claiming that he won the election, triggering chaos across the country.

Demonstrators in Cameroon’s largest city, Douala, were on Sunday reported to have “attacked” a Gendarmerie Brigade and Police Stations in two districts.

“Four people unfortunately lost their lives,” one Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua said, adding that several members of the security forces were also injured, a report disclosed.
