Church bombing was tragic mistake, must be acknowledged — Trump

According to Sky news report on July 17, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to publicly acknowledge a recent church bombing as a tragic mistake, following mounting international outrage and pressure from humanitarian and religious groups.

The call between the two leaders took place in the wake of a deadly Israeli strike on a historic church during ongoing military operations, an incident that resulted in multiple civilian casualties and drew widespread condemnation from the international community.

The attack, viewed as one of the most devastating episodes in the current conflict, has prompted strong reactions from the Vatican, European governments, and global humanitarian organizations.

According to U.S. and Israeli officials familiar with the matter, Trump reached out to Netanyahu shortly after global outrage intensified, advising him to issue a statement clarifying that the strike was unintentional.

“Strongly advised” was the phrasing used in an official White House statement released on Thursday, emphasizing the need for transparency and diplomatic repair.

Netanyahu reportedly agreed, and a formal address is expected in which he will characterize the church bombing as a “tragic mistake” while also reaffirming Israel’s right to defend itself from threats posed by militant groups.

The language of the forthcoming statement was reportedly crafted in close coordination between U.S. and Israeli officials to balance accountability with strategic defense.

Despite military claims that the strike targeted militants operating in the vicinity, emerging reports and visual evidence have revealed that civilians were sheltering inside the church at the time of the attack, complicating Israel’s justification and intensifying global scrutiny.

Critics argue that acknowledging the bombing as a mistake does not absolve responsibility. “Labeling it a mistake doesn’t bring back the dead,” a senior humanitarian official told reporters.
