The Nigerian Army (NA) has sought the support and cooperation of media practitioners to end banditry in the North-West zone of the country.
The Director, Defence Information in Chief of Defence Staff’s Office, Brigader-General Tukur Ismail Gusau, made the plea when he paid a courtesy visit to the Kebbi State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi in his office on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.
Gusau said “Hon. Commissioner, I’m in your office to seek the state’s media houses and other practitioners’ maximum cooperation in order to tackle or even end insecurity, particularly banditry activities in the North-West zone of the country.”
He lamented that activities of bandits have become worrisome, considering the influx of informants and those supplying food/drinks and even mobility at exorbitant prices, to the suspected bandits at their hideouts.
Gusau noted that it was only with the help of the media by exposing their illegal activities to authorities in the state that they could be dealt with.
According to him, the media is a very vital tool for information dissemination and as such, the Nigerian Army is ready for the collaborative efforts to end banditry.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi described the visit by the CDS’s Spokesman as timely and assured him government’s readiness to assist the Army in the fight against banditry activities in the state.
