Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Wednesday commissioned a 15.13km Ikot Otomo–Azumini Road in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The road, constructed by the Akwa Ibom State Government is hoped to cause a turn around development in the socio-economy lives of the people of the benefiting communities in Akwa Ibom and Abia state.

Wike, while commissioning the road, pledged the federal government’s support to the development drive in Akwa Ibom State.

He urged the people of the state to remain united irrespective of political lines saying that unity brings about development.

Wike who commended the working relationship between Pastor Umo Eno and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said Eno’s decision to team up with Akpabio would bring development to Akwa Ibom State.

He said, “I’m not here for party. I’m here for development. After all, the president is in APC. He found me worthy in another political party, to be made Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He said, I want somebody that will join hands with me to change the narrative in FCT.

“I can assure you, teaming up with the Senate President to work together, will see more presence, will see more development in Akwa Ibom state.”

Earlier, Governor Eno applauded Wike for the work in the FCT, and visiting Akwa Ibom state to commission road projects, saying unity defies politics.

Eno who said despite different party affiliations, he was committed to a united Akwa Ibom, added that unity is what will bring development and ensure the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“The commissioning of this road today again reaffirms our commitment to always deploy the finishing anointing elements of our governance. Government, I’ve always said, is a continuum. It does not matter who started a project. What is important is to finish the project for the common good of all.

“And so we are here today to commission this 15.13 km, Ikot Ekpene-Azumini road, which has over 3.5 km of road in Azumini, Abia state. For this project, I must thank the governor of Abia state, for understanding and allowing that we just work together. He’s doing the same thing on the other side of the road, also going into Akwa Ibom state.

“That is united progress. When we unite for progress, it defies politics. And people must enjoy the benefits of democracy.

“In fact, the presence of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory today, and PDP stalwarts, and other PDP leaders that have come here, to commission and work with an APC government, to commission a road project for the benefit of our people, shows unity.

“As a governor, I can tell you that there are funds to do our projects such as this, without owing the banks, and we are not leaving debts for those who will take over from us. So we want to support him. We believe he should finish. And we in Akwa Ibom, are united in support of the President. We are united in support of the distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio,” he stated.
