Village Head In Police Custody Over Attempt To Murder Sister

Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the Village Head of Ibagwa who allegedly shot his sister with a locally made gun in Akwa Ibom State is cooling his feet in police custody.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John said the incident occurred on September 6, 2025 following a misunderstanding over palm fruits.
According to her, a man (name withheld) filled a report that Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the Village Head of Ibagwa, allegedly shot their sister, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, 32 years, in the head with a gun.
Police responded by visiting the scene, got the suspect, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren arrested and taken into custody. A long single-barrel gun, believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from his possession.
Preliminary investigations, according to DSP John, suggested that the incident was the result of a misunderstanding over palm fruits.
Meanwhile, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reportedly responding.
