At AEW: Seplat Energy To Provide Insights Into Planned $320m In Nigeria’s Onshore Wells
Indigenous oil firm, Seplat Energy, is heading to African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies, scheduled for September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town, under a partnership that underscores Seplat’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s energy transition and its commitment to driving sustainable growth across the continent.
The energy firm, will provide better details as it is set to invest up to $320 million in 13 new onshore oil wells and other capital expenditure projects in 2025, aiming to increase its production to 140,000 barrels per day.
This expansion follows the company’s transformative $1.28 billion acquisition of ExxonMobil’s Nigerian onshore assets, which included 11 oil blocks, 48 oil and gas fields, three export terminals and five gas processing facilities.
The acquisition positions Seplat as one of Nigeria’s largest domestic oil producers and aligns with the country’s goal to boost oil output by an additional one million barrels per day. This strategic move not only enhances Seplat’s production capacity but also reinforces Nigeria’s position as a leading oil producer in Africa.
Seplat is also advancing Nigeria’s gas infrastructure. The company recently marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s energy transition by achieving its first domestic supply of LPG – Butane from the Bonny River Terminal, delivering 12,600 metric tons to the local market. By increasing LPG availability, Seplat aims to improve household energy access while reducing emissions associated with traditional cooking fuels.
The company is also developing the ANOH Gas Processing Plant in Imo State, a 300 million-standard-cubic-feet-per-day (MMscfd) facility expected to come online in 2025 under a joint venture with the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company. The plant – along with the 90 MMscfd Sapele Gas Plant in Delta State – is poised to significantly increase domestic gas supply, supporting power generation and industrialization efforts across the country, and will play a crucial role in Nigeria’s gas-led strategy to drive economic growth and energy security.
