Anybody Who Wants To Cause Trouble, We’re Ready For His Trouble And Will Give Him A Headache – Dangote

According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, was scheduled to commence construction of a $16 billion mega-refinery in Kenya on Wednesday, describing the project as an important development in the continent’s industrialisation efforts.

The planned facility is expected to become one of the largest refinery projects in Africa and represents a major expansion of Dangote’s investments in the continent’s energy sector.

Dangote, who established Africa’s largest oil refinery in Nigeria, is behind the proposed refinery at the port of Lamu in eastern Kenya.

The facility is projected to have a refining capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, a figure that would make it larger in capacity than any refinery currently operating in Europe.

The Kenyan refinery is expected to be completed within a period of between 30 and 40 months, according to the plans for the project.

Its development at Lamu is intended to expand refining capacity in the region while positioning Kenya as an important location for large-scale petroleum processing and related industrial activities.

However, the project has encountered legal challenges from a local community over issues relating to land rights.

The dispute has been taken before the courts, with the community raising concerns over the land associated with the planned development.

The legal proceedings remain ongoing despite the latest ruling concerning the commencement of construction.

A court ruling published on Monday cleared the way for the planned groundbreaking ceremony to proceed, although it did not bring the legal dispute to an end.

The court decision allows the construction process to begin while the broader case concerning the land rights claims continues through the legal process.

The refinery has also attracted objections from Greenpeace and other environmental groups, which have expressed concerns about the potential environmental consequences of the project.

The proposed facility is located in Lamu, a major tourist destination known for its historic importance, including the oldest Swahili settlement, which dates back to the 12th century and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dangote dismissed the legal challenges and other opposition to the project, maintaining that he and his team were prepared to deal with attempts to stop or delay the development.

He said: “We’re not really scared of people taking us to court. Anybody who wants to cause trouble, we are ready for his trouble and will give him a headache.”
