The Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi Campaign Organization for the 2026 NBBF Congress has highlighted the leadership philosophy of its principal, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, describing teamwork, inclusion and a demonstrated knack for measurable achievement as core elements of his leadership philosophy and vision for transforming Nigerian basketball.
The Campaign Organization said these qualities are essential to repositioning Nigerian basketball, strengthening the federation and building a more sustainable future for the sport.
According to the Campaign Organization, Dr. Abdullahi recognises that sustainable progress is rarely achieved in isolation, but through the collective efforts of players, coaches, officials, administrators, stakeholders and young talents.
It said his approach to leadership has consistently been built around listening to people, creating room for participation and bringing diverse interests together around common objectives.
The Campaign Organization further noted that Dr. Abdullahi’s spirit of inclusion is particularly important to Nigerian basketball, which possesses enormous talent and potential but requires stronger collaboration among its various stakeholders.
It maintained that leadership must be capable of building confidence, encouraging participation and placing the collective development of the game above individual interests.
The Campaign Organization referenced the words of renowned American basketball coach Nell Fortner, who said: “If you can learn to lead from your position, you will always have an important role on a team.”
It added that the principle captures Dr. Abdullahi’s understanding of leadership as a collective responsibility, in which every stakeholder has a role to play in achieving institutional and sporting success.
Beyond his ability to bring people together, the Campaign Organization pointed to Dr. Abdullahi’s record of accomplishment across various public-sector responsibilities as evidence of his results-oriented approach to leadership.
From his service as Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology to his tenure as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, the Campaign Organization said he has approached his assignments with clear objectives, a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to institutional development.
The Organization also noted that Dr. Abdullahi’s experience in youth mobilisation, sports-sector coordination and other responsibilities has reinforced his belief that leadership should be measured not merely by the position occupied, but by the impact created while serving.

the Campaign Organization stated, adding that his leadership philosophy is centred on turning opportunities into outcomes, challenges into solutions and responsibilities into platforms for sustainable development.
The Campaign Organization therefore maintained that Nigerian basketball requires a leadership model that combines people-centred engagement with a strong culture of delivery, arguing that the federation can achieve greater progress when stakeholders are united behind clear objectives and measurable targets.
It called on members of the Nigerian basketball community to consider a leadership approach that places teamwork, inclusion, accountability, institutional development and results at the centre of the sport’s next chapter.
