To Allah we belong, and to Him shall we all return. The Muslim world has received with deep sadness the passing of Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al-Madani, one of the distinguished muezzins of Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque in Makkah, who passed away in the early hours of Monday, 21 September 2026, at the age of about 51.
Sheikh Ibrahim was among the principal muezzins of the Grand Mosque and was particularly known for his beautiful Fajr Adhan, his recitation of the Takbeerat, and his service in relaying the Imam’s Takbeers to worshippers throughout the Haram.
Born in Madinah in 1976, Sheikh Ibrahim hailed from a religious family and began calling the Adhan at a neighbourhood mosque when he was only 15 years old.
He eventually went on to serve the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, where his voice became familiar to millions of Muslims around the world.
In a deeply moving coincidence, his final Adhan was the Fajr call he delivered at Masjid al-Haram on the very morning of his passing.
He once recalled that when he gave his first Adhan in the Grand Mosque and saw the pilgrims circumambulating the Kaaba while listening to his voice, he was overcome with emotion and wondered how he had been honoured to have his voice raised in such a sacred place.
Today, that voice has fallen silent, but the Adhan he raised in the House of Allah will remain in the memories of countless worshippers.
We ask Almighty Allah to envelop Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani in His infinite mercy, forgive his shortcomings, accept his years of service to the Sacred House, illuminate and expand his grave, and grant him Al-Firdaws Al-A’la among the righteous.
May Allah grant his family, loved ones, colleagues and the entire Muslim Ummah patience and comfort at this difficult time.
