El-Rufai Is Not Of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Musa Is Not Of CAN, They’re Politicians, ADC vs APC – Mahmud
Salihu Dantata Mahmud, a Security and Public Affairs Analyst, has cautioned against using religious affiliations to frame political disagreements involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.).
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Mahmud said politicians and public officials should not be portrayed as representatives of entire religious organisations or communities because of their personal backgrounds or affiliations.
“Nasir El-Rufai is not of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), General CG Musa is not of CAN. They are all politicians, APC and ADC,” Mahmud said.
The analyst made the remarks while discussing the political situation in Kaduna State and the broader debate over religious politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mahmud argued that religious sentiments should not be exploited in political contests, particularly in Kaduna State, where political disagreements have historically intersected with religious and communal tensions.
He said political actors should be assessed based on their individual actions and political positions rather than being presented as representatives of religious bodies.
He also cautioned against dragging religious organisations into political disputes involving individual politicians, stressing that such an approach could further complicate political discourse ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
